My uncle Jerry first showed me this amazing alligator juniper many years ago and now when I visit this tree I always think of him.

Split Personality

Many years ago this tree was split in two but from the trunk patterns this must of been an amazing tree at one time.

Burl Tree

One of the most unusual alligator juniper trees I have ever come across as it has the most burls I have ever seen on one tree.

Reaching Out

Hiking in the misty forest this tree seems to be reaching out to any passerby.

A Different Story

One side of this alligator juniper has good bark and the other side tells a different story.

During a hike I found a very wide and large alligator juniper that must be hundreds of years old.

Hanging Out

Burls are not as common on alligator junipers as they are on other trees but this one really stands out.

This amazing alligator juniper has spread out to create six tree trunks spreading out from the base of the tree.

Alligator Texture

Fog and a light rain soak the upper canopy of this alligator juniper as the lower trunk remains almost dry.

Many Seasons

This large alligator juniper has gone through some tough years but has still managed to grow into an impressive tree.

Has Character

I am not sure if this tree was hit by a lightning strike or what caused this along the trunk but whenever we see a tree like this we always say it has character.

Trail Marker

This old alligator juniper reminded me of a trail sign pointing to routes in all directions.

Seedling

What appears to be a pine seedling has found a growing spot on a small branch of this alligator juniper.

Split In Two

I am not sure if a lightning strike hit this alligator juniper or what happened with this tree but there several small branches that were still alive.

On The Rocks

This large alligator juniper was growing from the side of a granite ledge and over the years found a way to grow around any obstacle.

Lean On Me

Forest Creature

Hiking around a section of trees and all of a sudden this alligator juniper really stands out and at first glance seemed like a creature in the forest.

Grand Master

Hiking along the edge of a high plateau meadow I came across an amazing alligator juniper with large burls along the bottom trunk and branches going out in every direction.

Two Sides To Every Tree

One side of this alligator juniper had typical alligator bark while the other side had these amazing patterns.

Twisted Trunk

I have to remember to walk completely around a tree as the other side can really surprise you.

Resilient

This large alligator juniper tree had half of the bottom trunk burned off yet still managed to grow into this amazing tree.

Totem Pole

Sometimes I will come across alligator junipers with strange growth patterns but this tree had them all up and down the trunk.

Gator Burl

I usually do not find burls on alligator juniper trees so it is a real treat when you find one.
